Vacationing with your dog in Mallorca - Driving route around the island

DAY 1 - BARCELONA - PALMA DE MALLORCA

We left by boat from Barcelona on the route to Palma with the car. It's about a 7-hour crossing that flies by if you travel at night in a cabin. We tell you all about the journey in detail in this POST.

DAY 2 - PALMA DE MALLORCA / PORT POLLENÇA

We arrived in Palma de Mallorca early in the morning, so we took the opportunity to visit and stroll around the city.

They say that the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca is one of the most beautiful in Spain and visiting it is one of the most important things to do in the city. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed inside, so we could only admire it from the outside. What else can I do in Palma if I'm traveling with my dog? Explore the old town, treat yourself to a traditional ensaimada pastry, and stroll along the seafront promenade.

 In the afternoon, we arrived at Port Pollença, the port that inspired Agatha Christie in one of her novels, "Problem at Pollensa Bay." With its very wide, horseshoe-shaped bay surrounded by the dramatic mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana, the landscape is one of the most spectacular on the island.

Just a 3-minute walk from Port Pollença beach, we stayed the entire time at Pension Bellavista.

Pension Bellavista is one of the first hotels in Port Pollença when it was still just a fishing village, where we felt at home surrounded by the dog and cat family that lives in the pension and welcomes you with so much affection when you walk through the door.

Each morning we had breakfast in its beautiful garden under the centenary fig trees at the Bellaverde restaurant, the only vegetarian/vegan restaurant in the north of the island.

DAY 3 - BOAT TRIP FROM ALCÚDIA TO FAR DE FORMENTOR

There are undoubtedly many ways to get to Formentor, but we found the boat trip particularly interesting. The journey begins at the Port of Alcúdia at around 12 noon, boarding one of the glass-bottomed boats to enjoy a trip that took us to Cap de Formentor.
There are no size restrictions and we were not charged extra for them, we were just asked to keep an eye on them and make sure they had done their business beforehand. On Formentor beach, they can go in the pine forest area, but not in the swimming area.

In the afternoon, we went to the dog beach of Pollença, located a 20-minute walk from the Hotel. A "beach" of stones and water full of algae that didn't even allow us to go into the water. Personally, we do not recommend visiting it.

DAY 4 - GORG D'EN BLAU

¡Take a dip in a haven of peace! Gorg d'en Blau is an impressive lake with calm blue waters nestled in the Sierra de Tramuntana. A mirror between mountains located at the foot of Puig Major, the highest point in Mallorca, surrounded by the wild nature of the Serra de Tramuntana.

An environment of absolute calm and tranquility where the dogs could cool off and play in the water without the company of other swimmers. We only came across 10 people all morning, so you can imagine the feeling of peace we experienced. We also recommend walking around the lake.

DAY 5 - CALA FIGUERA

Cala Figuera is one of those places that you suddenly discover and fall in love with, with its tremendous cliffs and fishermen's cottages on either side of the harbor, making it a truly charming spot.

The fishing port offers a pleasant walk along its entire length, where you can admire the fishermen's houses and boats and enjoy the view of the stunning cliffs.
We walked along the port from Caló d'en Boira to the Torre d'en Beu lighthouse, which offers wonderful panoramic views. It is an easy, short walk that will not leave you indifferent.

DAY 6 - PORT DE SOLLER - DEIÀ

Port de Sóller is a small and picturesque coastal village nestled in the northeast of Mallorca. It is characterized by its historic tram, its port located in a large bay, and the beautiful landscape that surrounds it.

In Port de Soller, we "ventured" to rent a water scooter. Since access to the beaches is restricted for dogs, this was the only option that allowed us to cool off in the water and enjoy the sea.

In the afternoon, we headed to visit Deià; a picturesque village located in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana. Although Valldemossa attracts most of the attention, for many, Deià is the most charming village in Mallorca. The best way to discover Deià is to let yourself be carried away through its steep stone streets.

DAY 7 - SON SERRA DE MARINA AND SUNSET AT THE FORMENTOR LIGHTHOUSE

One of the most popular areas on the island for those in search of waves is this little-known resort that attracts lovers of surfing and other adventure sports.

We went to this beach on the recommendation of the hotel, as they told us that most beachgoers brought their dogs to the sand.

In the evening, around 7 p.m., we headed to Cap de Formentor to see one of the best sunsets in the Mediterranean. From the lighthouse, you can see how the sun slowly melts into the sea. We had never seen a sunset like this before! Simply breathtaking.

The road to Cap de Formentor winds around cliffs that will make you want to stop numerous times at the viewpoints. We recommend arriving at the lighthouse before sunset, as the place is crowded in summer.
